Plotting!

Look I’m blogging again already! :P

Well, I’ve been rather busy with nano prep this week, to the detriment of my schoolwork. I went through some world building questions, called 30 days of World Building, which I found really helpful. I now have my fantasy world basically designed, though it is lacking a name, and my plot has grown quite a bit. Most importantly, the daisy chain part fits in now! Rosy-Jane has also had her name changed to Rosemarie, as I never called her that anyway, it was always Rosy, and I, nor my mum or sisters, really liked Rosy-Jane. Jane can be her middle name, just to settle the muse. I am now looking at aiming toward the 75-100k mark for the novel, as I really don’t think it could fit into 50k if I tried. It’s going to make things even more difficult this November, but if I do it, it will be so much more satisfying!

The nano site also relaunched today, so make sure you’re part of the action. I did not spend half the day checking whether it was up, okay? Look I still slept in, which cut out half the waiting time. Don’t look at me like that! I know what you’re thinking, obsessed. Well, if you’re not, then try it and see for yourself how enjoyable it is! ;)

Wow …

I just realised the other day that I haven’t posted anything in here for ages, and I didn’t even end up posting my final result for nano last year! Well, my nano result, as you can see by my counter in the sidebar, was a win! I got 51,588 words, and typed about 11,500 on the last day of it. :)

Anyway, this year has been crazy, with year 12 and all the assignments, tests, performances, etc, that are associated with it. So I still don’t see myself posting regularly here for awhile, but I’m going to try. I’ve never been very good at keeping journals or that sort of thing.

But the main reason I wanted to post, was because I came up with my idea for this year’s nano! It is in the very beginning stages of development, and is going to need a lot of research, but here is the basic idea at the moment. It is a story of two very different girls, set around 1875 (hence the research!) in the UK, one the daughter of rich man, called Rosy-Jane, who is the second child of five, and the other a scullery maid in the kitchen of her house, named Alice. The idea is that they both get involved in this other world (how real this world is and how they get there, I’m not sure yet), which causes them to gradually develop a relationship, and pass the issues of social class and prejudice. I think that Rosy’s twelve, and Alice is eleven, and that both have an interest or connection of some sort with daisies, and I’m thinking the title is going to be ‘Daisy Chain’. I know this doesn’t make much sense, but there are plenty of little connections joining them up inside me at the moment, and I think something is going to come from all of this! And hopefully, I’m going to post updates on this.

But first I need to get all this schoolwork done. And at some point I need to finish Sophie and Del’s story off too (last year’s nano), as much as I don’t want to, as I don’t want to write in the necessary death. :( Oh well. It’s 57 days to nanowrimo starts, and 71 days to my 18th birthday! Yay!

The Half Way Point!

Today I reached 25,000 words! I wrote 5595 today alone. School being over means I have so much more time to write my novel. Yay!
There are just six days left of November, and I have 25k to write. If I keep up a word count of about 5000 words a day, I should be able to reach the 50k a day early. I hope so!

Arrgh

I am annoyed at myself, because I didn’t do any writing for my Nanonovel again today! I did finish my production report and another essay for drama, but I really need to get this writing done! It is really frustrating when all I really want to do is my novel writing.
Okay, little rant over. Think happy thoughts. ;)

10,000 words!

Okay, I am really, really behind. I should have reached 30,000 words today, and instead only reached 10,000. But, I have not written for like a week (school assignments – everything due for the end of the school year), so writing about 1000 words today was really cool. I even had three exams for school today! I just need to write a production report for drama (due tomorrow!!) and another essay to write to take into my drama exam (open book with questions already given to us, um hello? of course I’m going to write the exam ahead of time!). Then will have all the rest of the month to write, except when I am dancing of course! :) Writing here I come!

1st Day Reflection!

Well, the first day of NaNoWriMo is over, and the second is almost over too. The first day was quite a successful one, I wrote 2,456 words, which I think is the main result of the write-in. :) So far today, I have only written about 500 words, as I have been working on my school assignments, but I’ll write a bit more before I go to bed tonight. If I can write another 500 or so before I go to sleep, that would be good. I’d like to stay above the minimum word count if I can. A bit of a buffer for the next couple of weeks of final assignments due, and school exams. I can’t wait for school to be over so I can have more time to write! :D

Drama Performance

I had my drama performance today of Cosi, for which I was stage manager. It was fun, but hectic and crazy, and a long day. I’m feeling tired now, as you can probably imagine, so I’m keeping this short. But at least now that we’ve finished this (except for a matinĂ©e to younger students tomorrow), I’ll have more time to finish my homework, and do my NaNoWriMo novel! At the time of writing this, there is actually just under 24 hours to go! I can’t wait! ;)

So What is NaNoWriMo?

So, you might ask, what is this NaNoWriMo thing you’ve mentioned? Well, NaNoWriMo is an abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month. It was started 10 years ago in California by a man called Chris Baty. The aim: to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. Sound crazy? You could say that, especially if you’ve never written more than 2000 words before (like me!). Anyway, so you have thirty days to write 50,000 words, which equates to approximately 1,667 words a day. It must be a brand new piece of work, not a work in progress (shortened to WIP), and all the words must be for the same piece of work. You can, however, create an outline, book cover, characters, settings, etc, before the start of the month, as long as you don’t start actually writing that novel. Or you can just start writing whatever comes into your head on the first of the month. Either way, the idea is to just write, changing the ‘one day I’ll write a book’ idea into an actual completed event! Sound like fun? Well I think so, and this year will be my first attempt. If you want to join me in trying to reach that goal of 50,000 words in a month, go to www.nanowrimo.org and sign up!
(By the way, this entry was written on my iPhone, which I think is really cool!:))

My first post!

Well this is my first post in my brand new blog! I think it will mostly be focusing on the upcoming NaNoWriMo for now, but it could contain anything that springs to my mind! hehe And if I just write whatever comes into my mind, it may ramble quite a bit!
